Classic ( )

This is probably the first novel I ever read on my own. My Mom gave me her book to read after I had seen the Walt Disney cartoon. I love this book for its story and characters. I also love the book because it is the book that made me love reading. The characters of Baloo and Baghera will always be favourites of mine. The book is falling apart but I can't bring myself to get rid of it. ( )

Autor: (Bombai 1865 - Londres 1936.) Escriptor anglès. S'educà a la Gran Bretanya i el 1882 tornà a l'Índia, el seu país natal, on adquirí una ràpida popularitat com a periodista i autor de contes. Novament a Anglaterra (1889), fou el gran cantor de l'imperialisme britànic, en novel·les com La llum que s'acaba (1891) i poemes, tot i que les seves obres més reeixides són les que recreen ambients de l'Índia, com El llibre de la selva, 1894 i, sobretot, Kim (1901). Obtingué el Premi Nobel de literatura el 1907.

I can't believe I've never read this book before. It is genius and one of the best books I've read. ( )

My mom gave me a lot of classics when I was growing up, all big-text on pulpy paper and bright covers, perfect for the young book nerd. I loved the Jungle Books, I always thought she'd read them too, but talking to her recently, I guess she never read much Kipling. I'd forgotten that the first Jungle Book has side stories about Rikki-Tikki-Tavi and the bit about the elephants dancing and whatnot. Only the first half is really about Mowgli at all. The point of reading this, besides my obvious addiction, is so that I have the story straight in my head during The Second Jungle Book, which had passages that stuck in my brain like nothing else over the years.
