#67 Hi, MalGormley, I found Karen Armstrong's book History of God to have, um, a reshaping effect on my Christian beliefs. It is very dense reading, however. The first two-thirds of Jesus: Uncovering the Life by Borg was also interesting--changed my view on the Gospels. I'd be curious to ... I'm actively reading a History of God, Under the Banner of Heaven, and Insomnia. all by Karen A ... A History of God does seem like a momentous task. Did you find it a tough read because of style or subject matter? Or something else? 291 In A History of God, Karen Armstrong traces the traces the development of how the Jewish, Christian, and Islamic religions view God. The book is extensively researched, very detailed, and - while I found it a a bit of a tough read - does an admirable job covering the subject's 4000 years.

Her book History of God is also a fascinating study of the world's religions. For some reason I thought this might be hard going but I'm completely caught up in it and it's racing along. Just started A History of God by Karen Armstrong. I am somewhat ambivalent about Karen Armstrong, but I liked her A History of God. I think it is good at showing how Judaism, Christianity, and Islam all draw on each other in their development. I too do not understand why people are so gullible. After reading A History of God I am convinced, more than ever, that this willingness to believe absurdities is the result of some genetic anomaly that served some useful purpose 100,000 - 1,000,000 years ago, but serves us badly now. 30. A History of god by Karen Armstrong

Plu ... Although I confess I've not read anything else she wrote, Karen Armstrong's A History of God, combined with an amazing Classics professor in college, was what got me interested in comparative religion.
