Rutherford tells the story from the ice age to present and throughout he tracks the descendants of the first settlers. It was, however, painfully dry. ( )Sarum is an entertaining and well researched novel about the history of the area surrounding Salisbury, England. While I did enjoy it overall, there was a greater range of quality between sections than I usually find in Rutherfurd's work. There were certainly chapters where I wasn't sure that I was understanding his point, and since some of the sections run for over 100 pages, a less than glowing one can be frustrating. Overall I would say that fans of Rutherfurd's brand of epic historical fiction will find this an entertaining and worthwhile read, even at it's daunting 1032 pages, but those who are not already familiar with his work would do best to start elsewhere. I enjoyed London more. Historical fiction with the region surrounding Salisbury, England (named Sarum is medieval England) as the topic. Not up to par with some of Rutherfurd's other work, but worthwhile nonetheless. Sarum is a fascinating and well-written story of 10,000 years of British history. Rutherfurd weaves a fine fiction tale around historical fact. I was surprised how quickly the story grabbed me and pulled me in.. Decent read, and educational. Not exactly profound, but a compelling story. ingen anmeldelser | legg inn en anmeldelse
