Om meg Jazz lover, ditto history and historiography. I also love (but bemoan the decay of) the
English written and spoken word. Items relevant to that concern I tag TEL for The English Language.

Hello there!
I got "The Evasion English Dictionary" for a class I was taking as an undergraduate. It was a course on linguistics, and the professor recommended that we read this book. After reading it, I found it just mind blowing! I never thought about the significance of all the meanings that a single expression may have. To be honest, before I read this little book, I didn't even consider the many facets of words like "like"! The book does show how the English language is evolving. People may not use the same words to express themselves as they did even a few decades back, but one can still see new modes of expression (ones that often rely on intonation and circumstance, it appears).
I thought it to be a very clever book. :)
You know, I'm not really sure how I found it. I loaned my copy to someone else, though, and I think I got it back, but I haven't found it since then. I really liked it, too.
