Om meg What can I say? I am a hopeful historian, a free-lance archaeologist, an educator and perpetual student. I have a BA in history and anthropology, and am working on a masters of education. I am an avid reader, a musician, an artist. I live to be creative and expressive, to grow and learn each day and to experience as much as possible in my life. I have wandered the streets of Tokyo, traipsed around Stockholm, and excavated urban African American archaeological sites and old Viking trading ports. I cook in European and Chinese and Japanese styles, from ancient recipies to modern fusion cooking, and brew the sweetest of meads. I sew and embroider, crochet and quilt. And in my free time...

Om biblioteket mitt It is very eclectic, with a wide range of literature and non fiction works. I have a fair balance between academic, non-fiction, and fiction. It ranges from historical texts spanning the existence of humankind, to archaeological finds, to poetry, biography, manga, science fiction and fantasy, mystery and horror, books old, new and antiquated.

I have just finished reading [Three Cups of Tea] and I really enjoyed it. It carries the powerful message of education as a means towards peace. Check out my review.

Currently Reading: Introduction to Student Involved Assessment for Learning, The Academic's Handbook, and an ARC of Salman Rushdie's [Enchantress of Florence].

Kris,
Just dropping by to let you know that you won my giveaway of "Aberrations" by Penelope Przekop :) Congrats!!! Just send me a private message here on LT with your address, or send me an email at kegsoccer at aol dot com, and I'll get the book out asap.

Thanks,
Kathleen
I haven't read it yet, but your review has me seriously intrigued! :) I'd actually picked it up on a lark, (you know my obsession with tea), and then was standing in the checkout reading the back going, "MAN, I can't wait to read this!" It just needs to wait till I'm through the stack already on the bedside table...
Kris~
I haven't had a chance to get online until now, but I just wanted to let you know that I sent Herbs Demystified yesterday morning. It should be there sometime next week (they said up to 5 business days.)

Enjoy the book!

~Mona
Kris –
Herbs Demystified is a fascinating book! I'd be happy to send it your way, just send me your address.
If you don't mind, I'm asking people to reimburse me for postage, because although media mail isn't very expensive, it still adds up:)

Thanks,

~ Mona
Glad you got it, safe and sound. Let me know what you think when you're done (whenever that may be).
I sent the book out today, Kris. Hope you receive it soon.
Kris, I'll try to send out The Venetian Mask on Friday. Will let you know if I manage to do so!
The Translator is finally on its way to you.
Hi,

Yes, I think you've got an interesting library. As a Norwegian I'm interested in the history and literature of Norway. I see from your tags that you have one called 'Viking'. The main book about the vikings in Norway is Snorre Sturlason (Icelandic): "The Saga of the Norwegian Kings". Here it is so well-known that we just call it "Snorre", and all Norwegian children learn about it in their first years (and later on) at school. I don't know if this book is translated into English (or other languages). My edition of "Snorre" is illustrated with drawings and maps and it describes the lives of the Viking Kings from about 850 to 1200. "Snorre" starts with 'The Saga of the Ynglings' (in Norwegian: Ynglinge-saga) and ends with 'The Saga of Magnus Erlingsson' (Magnus Erlingssons saga). The longest saga is 'The Saga of Olav The Saint' (Olav den helliges saga (230 pages out of 700)). The real name of this king was Olav Haraldsson, and he was killed at Stiklestad in the middle of Norway in 1030, and later he was declared a Holy King. His death date was july 29, and we celebrate this day as 'Olsok'.
Thank you Kris -- I'm afraid The Translator is still sitting on my desk at work and won't be in transit until Tuesday or Wednesday. It was hell week at work. Hope you're not in a hurry for it.
Ok, ditto, will probably get The Translator in the mail tomorrow. Thanks Kris!
Kris,
I've already got a claimant for the book. As a Medieval Historian and fan of Archaeology myself, let me direct you to my review of the book. It really has nothing to do with the Alchemy of yore...
I found the handbook somewhat useful, but I have been working as an adjunct for a few years...
Hi Kris,
What book did we share in common that initially piqued your interest?
Hi

I've already agreed to send it to Allama but maybe she'll send it to you when she's done. I'll send her a note with the book.

Beth
re Globalistan - it will take me a week or two more to finish the thing. I will post a message when I mail it, so you will know when to start watching.
Hi - I saw your request for copies of the Early Reviewer books you had requested and didn't win. I would be happy to give you my copy of Globalistan if you want to leave me a private message with your address. Although it was an October selection, I didn't receive it until just before Christmas, and didn't start reading it until after the holidays. I will admit, I am really struggling to get through it. It will probably take a couple more weeks to wade through the rest of it so I can post a review, but after that it's yours if you want it.
Hi Kris, I just found LibraryThing last week and I've been having a blast posting my library online. I've been stopping to say a quick hello to anyone who shows up on my "You and One Other" list. It turns out that you and I are the only ones here who own "Scandanavia: the Background for Neutrality" by Alma Luise Olson. I haven't read this yet though, have you? I do love "histories" like this one that are written during the time-period they describe. In case you're interested, I have added a cover jpg. for this book that you can use. That's it for now. Drop a line if you care to. Best, Jerry (SF, CA)
