Om meg I am a homebody, who used to work at various jobs, some more satisfying than others. Now due to ill health I’m on a disability pension and have reconciled myself to staying home and living the quiet life. I love reading and finding new books through discussions here on LibraryThing, I also enjoy spending time with my family, knitting, watching old movies, and playing with my dogs.

We are a military family and have moved many times across Canada and each time the movers complain about all the books, it's definitely the constant family story. I always feel like we're finally home when all my books are unpacked and sorted out.

I keep books because I love them and want to read them again, because they offer fond memories of who gave them to me or who owned them before me, for reference, or to up my count on LibraryThing ;-)

I'm reading: The Wine of Angels by Phil Rickman
ReReadings: Seventeen Writers Revisit the Books They Love edited by Anne Fadiman

I'm listening to: Dawn O'Hara, the Girl Who Laughed by Edna Ferber.

Om biblioteket mitt My collection is pretty eclectic, mostly fiction, my preference, but non-fiction too, biographies, references, art, history, crafts. All the books catalogued are physically in my library, most I've read, some are still waiting patiently. It's a living thing, always growing, sharing and comparing with friends and family.

WOOOOO HOOOOO!!!!! So glad to hear that!
I am so glad Daisy is better. I use green beans and pumpkin to fill out the dogs diets. I would go slowly with Daisy if you want to try but I believe dogs will eat just about any thing. Both of mine love apples, cantelope, even cucumbers. Talk with your vet maybe as this last deal may have been digestive but I believe you can feed her many nonfat things.

I am truly happy for you all. Give both Daisy and Pippi a good, long, tummy rub from me.
Yayy! I'm glad to hear. Thanks for letting me know. That must have been scary, especially since you lost Lady so recently. I can just imagine how much cuddling both pups are going to get this weekend :o)

We're going to try and get to the Saanich Fair on Sunday. Not so much for the rides (although I know the boys will want to try some out)but I want to see the crafts and animals. We've never been before so I'm not sure what to expect, except that scenes from Charlotte's Web keep creeping into my mind.
I am so pleased to hear that and I can imagine how relieved you are. I remember when Scottie was sick and we thought she would die, my heart broke every day that she got sicker and weaker and when she finally started to improve I felt dizzy with relief.

Poor little Daisy though, she must be such a brave little thing to fight so hard. I bet she is being properly spoilt now, lots of fusses and love, just as she deserves.

I quite like this new look page by the way.
Just wondering if you have news on Daisy today? I've been thinking about you all and keeping my fingers crossed that she will be well.
Oh Katy. I'm sorry. I just heard about Daisy. My thoughts are with all four of you and hoping for the best. Please take care.
As you may remember, Nicky had pancreatitis twice and I know it is frightening to behold. I have him very strictly on Obsesity Maintenance vet diet and he has lost lots of weight and has been very healthy. I hope that the treatment for Daisy works. They are such brave little creatures, our dogs. They just don't know how to tell us they are feeling sick until it is all too obvious. Good luck and best wishes for quick and total recovery.
Oh, Katylit, I just read about Daisy going to the vets. Please let us know how she is, how you and your dear husband are, and what is going on. You know whenever one of our puppies has a problem we are all touched and are doing whatever we know how to do to send her and you all the healing energy possible. You have all my hugs today!
I'm so sorry about Daisy, I'll be thinking of you today and saying some prayers for your heart. Our minds tell us our hurts are little compared to other's, and it may be so, but it doesn't feel so. It hurts. With love, from Lee
Hi Katherine, I'm so sorry to hear that poor Daisy is not well. I really hope that they can do something to help her. It's so terrible to think she is not well. Just seeing your post on the heartache thread brought tears to my eyes. You must be feeling just awful thinking and worrying about her. I'm sending lots of hugs to you all.
Hi Katherine, thank you for the hug, it is a very sad day and hugs do help. Scottie is being very good about sharing some of hers though and is cuddled up beside me. This may have more to do with the bag of marshmallows I've been nibbling on, but I like to think she is empathising. She hasn't realised that Andrew going out means he isn't coming home for awhile now but I expect she will be searching for him later.

Thank you for the mug anyway, that's really lovely of you to think of us. You reminded me of a family story, my uncle going away with the Navy got to go shopping in Florida once and bought my aunt a beautiful jewellery box. When she opened it up it had a business card from the store and a tiny sticker saying 'Made in Helensburgh, UK' on it. Helensburgh is the very tiny town they live in.

I might give The Woman in Black a try instead now. I have read a Jonathan Aycliffe book but a long time ago and I can't remember much of it. I think it was called The Vanished but I am not sure. I think I enjoyed it though.

I am glad that Pippin and Daisy are getting along better now. It is sad to see a puppy start to grow up but Daisy is probably greatful for it. You will have to put some new pictures up in the dog group so we can have a look at him now. Poor Daisy though, going to the vet. Scottie is never happy about that.

You take care too, Jody xx
Thank you for your kind words about my review of Clerkenwell Tales...as I said, I am, overall, a huge fan of Akroyd and I did enjoy that book. I also came from a military family, as a child, and though I did not go into that life as an adult, I did live and travel abroad a fair bit, so I know exactly what you mean about unpacking and sorting books! Funny how the book piles, especially the "to-read" piles seem to grow organically...can't quite figure out how that happens.

I look forward to your thoughts on Clerkenwell Tales when you have finished it. I just finished JG Ballard's autobiography: Miracles of Life and am posting a review now. I quite liked it and it has inspired me to go back and re-read some old Ballards that I have on my shelves and to find some new ones.

Cheers....John
Thanks Katherine, Yes, we did have a wonderful weekend at the beach and it sounds like the rest of the GD gathering was a lot of fun for you as well.

Come on back to Seattle anytime! I'm happy to give you a ride up to Third Place Books - like I NEED an excuse to go up there! Maybe on your next visit there will be time (and daylight) for me to give you a little tour, with frequent stops for bookstores.

I am really glad that I had a chance to meet you and the gang on Friday!
