Om meg Ah, would you just look at all of this space allotted to me to fill with all the self-aggrandizing fodder I can muster. Well, let me see ... It all started on a cold April morning in 1978. I was ripped from my warm, happy home and forced to live here, in this cruel world. Since that incident, on that most revolting of days, I have acquiesced that this is the reality of things, and eventually I found a way to deal with the idea—mostly.

I am one of those contemplative, philosophical types who spends much of his time trying to answer the big questions like, “Why am I here?” and “What’s the meaning of life?” I figure that I will eventually come very close to answering those big questions, and just then, old age and senility will set in and I will forget what I was doing altogether.

I enjoy reading (obviously, eh?) writing, learning new things, camping, hiking, snowshoeing, and mountain biking. I am also a big fan of rugby and football (or soccer, if you will), though I have a difficult time deciding which I like better. There was a time when hockey would have topped that list; however, it dropped a couple of spots after the ridiculous new rules went into effect. However, it has since begun its climb back onto the list.

I also love to travel. I have been to almost half of the states in the US, and I have seen a fair portion of the world, though I want to see much more before my time here is up. My favorite places (so far) are Colorado, New Mexico, New England, New York (city that is), Boston, Chicago, Newport Beach, Dublin and Ireland in general, London, North and Mid-Wales, Sydney and the southern coast of Australia.

Om biblioteket mitt I'm a bookseller, and as such, books have slowly taken over my home (a "problem" I'm sure many have experienced) so I've started selling off some of my library to make room for newer things that I'll actually read.

I mostly read general/literary fiction, as well as non-fiction in the areas of philosophy, comparative religion, history, sociology, and personal essays. I also enjoy graphic novels, though for a long time I viewed them as a guilty pleasure (I admit, I used to be a bit of a literary snob). Oh, and just for the record, I am one of the few males on this planet who will admit to liking Jane Austen.

I have read most of the books in my library (though you may notice that 'tbr' is one of my most common tags--that pile keeps growing!). I am usually reading several books at once, though rarely do I read more than one novel at a time, unless they are very different stories. My penchant for multi-book reading makes going out of the house stressful. I always bring a book with me everywhere I go (even for the shortest of trips), but I can never decide what kind of book to bring. When I’m leaving, I might be in the mood for a novel, but later in the day, I may be more in the mood for essays, or perhaps philosophy. So, I usually end up toting multiple books around with me. It is a sickness, and once I find a reputable twelve-step program for it, perhaps I will seek help.

The computer was sort of a slooooow burn. A neighbour was over and she noticed the burning smell but it took us at least 45 minutes to track it down! I think the motor on the fan burnt out and then the rest of it overheated. The oven was a little more dramatic. I had turned the self - cleaning program on and about halfway through there was an almighty bang and the power went out. After I flipped the circuit breaker everything seemed fine and dandy until I tried to bake a frozen pizza a couple days later and discovered that the oven no longer got hot.
I'm still in Augusta, my husband is in North Carolina. We really have no idea how long he'll be there (he was supposed to retire next June but it's been denied) or if he's going overseas etc and we didn't want to uproot the kids, sell the house etc if it's only going to be for a year or so. Plus if he's going to be deployed I'd rather stay here where I have friends. So now I have a new weekend ritual -- making a 500 mile round trip to go see him. FUN!
So how are things with you? Still getting free books? And what was that book about the Romanovs that I thought sounded good? Did you read it yet?
My computer caught fire, my oven exploded and my husband got reassigned. Other than that things have been great! On the bright side - I got a BEAUTIFUL new iMac (to replace the PC that caught fire), my oven is now fixed and my husband is at least still Stateside.
And get this ..... today I walked into Barnes and Noble, walked right back to the kids department, found the book my son wanted, paid for it and left. Didn't even browse! How's that for self control!
That's okay =) I logged off not long after. Hope you're doing well!
Hellooooo? Is there anybody home?
Insanely great news! It IS a good thing when RL takes over, especially when it's fun and good things happening :-)
RL chores, though... not so fun.

Visiting a megachurch... now THAT would be something! The family plan a trip to Mexico sometime in the future, and it could be argued that Colorado is on the way, no? It might be that we plan an extended trip, to take us to both countries. Just needs some saving up money first... (now that was an understatement!)
*waves across the pond*
:-)
Haven't seen you in AGES, but hope everything is as it should. Presently I'm reading loads of boring stuff related to work, and it makes me feel... listless. It will soon get better, though.

Been visiting relatives up in the northern Bible belt. As interesting as ever, if you take it with a pinch of salt, and met GD'rs IRL in London last weekend. Fun. I keep thinking that I'd like to meet you and Flee and a couple of others, but oh, there's the issue of time and travel expenses ;-)

(Something in Flee's recent comment indicated to me you're busy RPG-ing?)
:oP~ The review! ;o)
Playing hooky with the bosses! LOL I want to hear a brief review when you get the chance. I took my son (he got home late Monday) to see Hellboy II today. It was good, not as good as the first, but still a lot of fun. And very visually stunning, too.

Well yes and no. I did get a little carried away in Books a Million last week, but actually most of the children's books I've added were ones my kids already had. It's just taken me this long to get around to cataloging them!
As for the stalking tools, they're a lot of fun. I got a chuckle out of the Nick Chavez book you added. Were you having a bad hair day???
I got 'Nickel and Dimed' for $1 at the library. I remembered that PeaBee had reviewed it, but I couldn't seem to remember if he liked it or not. LOL

Well, I want me kids to see the world, and I can't show it to them, so I have to let them see it without me. So it goes.

Just finished 'Fast Food Nation,' and dagnabbit, I don't know if I'm ever going to be able to enjoy eating mammal flesh again. :o/ Ack. They were feeding the cattle dead dogs and cats!!! Ugh. :o/
Ha! Four more books yesterday I see! LOL Well, I'm doing a B&N run soon. I haven't bought a book in two weeks I think. It's killing me. ;o)
My son leaves for Ireland (and points beyond) this morning, so I can breath a sigh of relief for a few days, until it's time to get my daughter ready for her trip starting Monday. (She leaves on Sunday for her tour, starting with Germany.) I hope to have some reading time while they are gone.
$1 clearance books! *pout* I was just visiting a huge B&N last week and there were a couple of 50% off tables, but no $1 books. I'm going to have to visit my usual B&N over the next week and look. Damn! How is business? Do you ever hear the management complain about things being slow?
Yowser, you've added a lot of books lately!
*is very jealous*
By the way, I'm loving Fast Food Nation, but it's also thoroughly depressing me.
I (almost) screamed in agony when Donadoni chose Di Napoli to take one of the penalties - I just knew he would miss...
Oh well. It's just a game ;-)
Yeah, last 15 minutes right now... looking bad for Italy - they really don't have a good scorer on their team this year.
So, are you going to watch Italy - Spain tonight (tonight here, at least - ought to be early afternoon where you are)?
Wow that is great! I haven't seen any of the games because our TV died about a month ago. First day of the school holidays in fact. I thought I would never make it through the summer but I'm really not missing it (well except for the football).
Now if only they would show premiership games on the networks.
WOW! I just finished watching the game... not very happy either, but on the other hand the Russian team deserved to win, IMHO - They where the better team.
Also, I didn't want Turkey to win yesterday, I like the Croatians better for some obscure reason... and Germany...? :-(
Italy is my team but I'm placing my bets with Spain, tomorrow. I think they'll handle the russians in the semi.

Have you noticed the new personal 'home page'? I think it will take some time getting used to!
Can't wait to see it!
:o)
How are those Vampire books going for you?
I'm thinking this wouldn't go down too well.

You forgot to make your comment private.
;o)
I am resisting the urge to post lyrics to football songs in the "lyrics we love" thread.
"I'm melting, I'm melting"
But seriously, other than that things have calmed down a little here. The kids are out of school for the summer and I'm off too. Wohoo! Now I just have to catch up on all the stuff that we got behind on during the craziness that was the first 6 months of this year.
Here's some more Max and Paddy (from Phoenix nights)for you. One of my favourites. You can actually watch the whole episode if you look for S1E2P1 and S1E2P2. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A0N0Srpr9...
