Om meg Ah, would you just look at all of this space allotted to me to fill with all the self-aggrandizing fodder I can muster. Well, let me see ... It all started on a cold April morning in 1978. I was ripped from my warm, happy home and forced to live here, in this cruel world. Since that incident, on that most revolting of days, I have acquiesced that this is the reality of things, and eventually I found a way to deal with the idea—mostly.
I am one of those contemplative, philosophical types who spends much of his time trying to answer the big questions like, “Why am I here?” and “What’s the meaning of life?” I figure that I will eventually come very close to answering those big questions, and just then, old age and senility will set in and I will forget what I was doing altogether.
I enjoy reading (obviously, eh?) writing, learning new things, camping, hiking, snowshoeing, and mountain biking. I am also a big fan of rugby and football (or soccer, if you will), though I have a difficult time deciding which I like better. There was a time when hockey would have topped that list; however, it dropped a couple of spots after the ridiculous new rules went into effect. However, it has since begun its climb back onto the list.
I also love to travel. I have been to almost half of the states in the US, and I have seen a fair portion of the world, though I want to see much more before my time here is up. My favorite places (so far) are Colorado, New Mexico, New England, New York (city that is), Boston, Chicago, Newport Beach, Dublin and Ireland in general, London, North and Mid-Wales, Sydney and the southern coast of Australia.
Om biblioteket mitt I'm a bookseller, and as such, books have slowly taken over my home (a "problem" I'm sure many have experienced) so I've started selling off some of my library to make room for newer things that I'll actually read.
I mostly read general/literary fiction, as well as non-fiction in the areas of philosophy, comparative religion, history, sociology, and personal essays. I also enjoy graphic novels, though for a long time I viewed them as a guilty pleasure (I admit, I used to be a bit of a literary snob). Oh, and just for the record, I am one of the few males on this planet who will admit to liking Jane Austen.
I have read most of the books in my library (though you may notice that 'tbr' is one of my most common tags--that pile keeps growing!). I am usually reading several books at once, though rarely do I read more than one novel at a time, unless they are very different stories. My penchant for multi-book reading makes going out of the house stressful. I always bring a book with me everywhere I go (even for the shortest of trips), but I can never decide what kind of book to bring. When I’m leaving, I might be in the mood for a novel, but later in the day, I may be more in the mood for essays, or perhaps philosophy. So, I usually end up toting multiple books around with me. It is a sickness, and once I find a reputable twelve-step program for it, perhaps I will seek help.

I'm still in Augusta, my husband is in North Carolina. We really have no idea how long he'll be there (he was supposed to retire next June but it's been denied) or if he's going overseas etc and we didn't want to uproot the kids, sell the house etc if it's only going to be for a year or so. Plus if he's going to be deployed I'd rather stay here where I have friends. So now I have a new weekend ritual -- making a 500 mile round trip to go see him. FUN!
So how are things with you? Still getting free books? And what was that book about the Romanovs that I thought sounded good? Did you read it yet?

And get this ..... today I walked into Barnes and Noble, walked right back to the kids department, found the book my son wanted, paid for it and left. Didn't even browse! How's that for self control!

RL chores, though... not so fun.
Visiting a megachurch... now THAT would be something! The family plan a trip to Mexico sometime in the future, and it could be argued that Colorado is on the way, no? It might be that we plan an extended trip, to take us to both countries. Just needs some saving up money first... (now that was an understatement!)

:-)
Haven't seen you in AGES, but hope everything is as it should. Presently I'm reading loads of boring stuff related to work, and it makes me feel... listless. It will soon get better, though.
Been visiting relatives up in the northern Bible belt. As interesting as ever, if you take it with a pinch of salt, and met GD'rs IRL in London last weekend. Fun. I keep thinking that I'd like to meet you and Flee and a couple of others, but oh, there's the issue of time and travel expenses ;-)
(Something in Flee's recent comment indicated to me you're busy RPG-ing?)

As for the stalking tools, they're a lot of fun. I got a chuckle out of the Nick Chavez book you added. Were you having a bad hair day???

Well, I want me kids to see the world, and I can't show it to them, so I have to let them see it without me. So it goes.
Just finished 'Fast Food Nation,' and dagnabbit, I don't know if I'm ever going to be able to enjoy eating mammal flesh again. :o/ Ack. They were feeding the cattle dead dogs and cats!!! Ugh. :o/

My son leaves for Ireland (and points beyond) this morning, so I can breath a sigh of relief for a few days, until it's time to get my daughter ready for her trip starting Monday. (She leaves on Sunday for her tour, starting with Germany.) I hope to have some reading time while they are gone.

*is very jealous*
By the way, I'm loving Fast Food Nation, but it's also thoroughly depressing me.

Also, I didn't want Turkey to win yesterday, I like the Croatians better for some obscure reason... and Germany...? :-(
Italy is my team but I'm placing my bets with Spain, tomorrow. I think they'll handle the russians in the semi.
Have you noticed the new personal 'home page'? I think it will take some time getting used to!

But seriously, other than that things have calmed down a little here. The kids are out of school for the summer and I'm off too. Wohoo! Now I just have to catch up on all the stuff that we got behind on during the craziness that was the first 6 months of this year.
