Om meg I'm gone. Off to a place that some believe we shouldn't be. But I have a job to do and young men and women to lead, watch over and bring back home. As my father before me who was gone for four years and my ancestors before that, I can do no less.
I am grateful for everyone's thoughts and prayers. But direct them more towards our loved ones who must endure the terrible long wait while we are away.
Whether you are for, against or neutral about what is going on around the world I ask for one thing only. To be able to curl up with a book in the quiet moments is a balm for the mind and soul during tough times. Visit here:

"The true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him."
-G.K. Chesterton
"Live right so when it comes your time to die,
you will not be like those whose hearts are filled with
the fear of death, who weep and pray for a little more
time to live their lives over again in a different way.
Sing your death song and die like a hero going home."
-Tecumseh
"SI VIS PACEM, PARA BELLUM"
-Publius Renatus
"All lives on a battlefield are equal, and a dead rifleman is as great a loss in the eyes of God as a dead General. The dignity which attaches to the individual is the basis of Western Civilization, and this fact should be remembered by every Commander."
-GEN Matthew B. Ridgway
"You cannot qualify war in harsher terms than I will. War is cruelty, and you cannot refine it; and those who brought war into our country deserve all the curses and maledictions a people can pour out. I know I had no hand in making this war, and I know I will make more sacrifices to-day than any of you to secure peace."
"But, my dear sirs, when peace does come, you may call on me for any thing. Then will I share with you the last cracker, and watch with you to shield your homes and families against danger from every quarter."
-GEN William T. Sherman
"Let us have faith that right makes might, and in that faith, let us, to the end, dare to do our duty as we understand it"
-Abraham Lincoln
I grew up in a house full of books and will be eternally grateful to my parents for that. I have been there and done that and helped to make history with the places I have been, things I have done and things I have seen. Twenty-four years and probably in until they force me to retire.
Born and raised a Noo Yawkuh and no matter where and how far I go I will always tawk like dis!
For fun and relaxation I enjoy gardening, shooting, reading (DUH), Baroque period classical music, jazz and collecting and watching classic films.
Om biblioteket mitt As I catalouge my books I can see patterns and remember what was going on in my life during certain periods. Kind of amazing I think.
I've been loading up my Kindle with books. Going a year or more scrounging for reading material not of my choosing would be seriously unpleasant. Reading in the quiet moments is what will keep me sane.
Finally bought one of those new fangled MP3 player devices. Loaded it good with classical, jazz and blues. More things to keep me sane and rooted in a combat zone.

Keep yourself safe, bring yourself and your soldiers home safely and in victory. My wife and I will add you to our soldiers in harm's way prayers. I wish I could tell you that I'll meet you on the objective but I can't, age and time prevent me from being there with you.
From an old soldier...Godspeed, good luck and good hunting.
