Om meg I'm a cataloger at the University of Washington Libraries in Seattle, Washington. I'm a big classical music buff (mostly late 19th-21st century symphonic music) and a figure skating fan, a country/western dancer, a lover of food and exotic wildlife. My A.B. is in biology from Cornell and my M.L.I.S. is from UC Berkeley.

Om biblioteket mitt I've got an eclectic library of gay fiction and nonfiction, books on classical music, some travel guides, dictionaries, an atlas or two, a box of maps, and thousands of CDs. My music library is mostly classical orchestral music, with a smattering of country, pop, musicals and film soundtracks, folk, and others. I love collecting obscure instrument concertos and classical music from Australia and New Zealand that isn't easily available in the U.S. (I buy a lot of it online from Australian and New Zealand sources). I also get a fair number of interesting used CDs on eBay. Unfortunately there really isn't a great used CD store in Seattle comparable to places like Amoeba Records in Berkeley, San Francisco, and Los Angeles or other big used stores I've been to in Portland, Or. and elsewhere.

I see that we two are the ONLY ones on LibraryThing to have catalogued Kosti's "Nicolas Slonimsky: The First Hundred Years" . . . Somehow, that book doesn't seem so obscure to me. It is, after all, such a good collection!

We share similar (if not exact) tastes in music. Among my favorite symphonists are such 20th century composers as these:

Sibelius

Stravinsky

Hindemith

Martinu

Piston

Ives

Harris

Harrison

Hovhaness

...and I'd better stop now. I've only heard one symphony by McPhee, but loved it; same goes for Harbison. I wish that Kirchner had written one, and may even write one myself someday. Alas, my current project is turning something more my speed: a piano sonatina!
